Care Guide
We want you to enjoy your Eòlas sweater for as long as possible. We also want to keep textiles out of landfills. With that in mind, we’ve written up some advice to help extend the life of your purchase. Firstly, carefully read and follow the directions on your care label, and then give your garment some extra love and attention by trying the tips below:
Care Guide
Don’t Wash It So Often
It really isn’t necessary to wash your clothing after every wear. Water and energy use aside, this practice shortens the life of your clothing and fades the color. Much better to air it and leave it in sunlight for a short time, which acts as a natural antibacterial agent. If there’s a stain, spot clean it.
Spot Cleaning
Remove stains asap. Cotton and cashmere are harder to clean the longer your leave it. Try using a clean damp cloth and mild soap or detergent to dab out the spot. Don’t over rub. Rinse the cloth and remove any soapy suds. Dry with a hairdryer on low heat to avoid watermarks. If all else fails, follow the care label instructions.
Green Dry Cleaning
Eólas sweaters are knitted using luxury fibers, very fine yarns, and delicate stitches. To maintain the appearance and durability of certain sweaters, our knitters recommend green dry cleaning. If absolutely necessary, choose a certified, environmentally-aware dry cleaner who avoids harmful chemical solvents such as perchloroethylene, aka perc, classified as a potential carcinogen by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). When you pick up your clothing, decline the plastic cover.
Cold Water
Use cold water when hand washing. It is better for your sweater’s longevity, avoiding color fading, as well as for the environment. Leave submerged in cold water with a small amount of environmentally friendly laundry detergent. After a few minutes, check for stains and remove by rubbing the mark with another part of the garment. Rinse but do not wring. Instead squeeze gently until dripping stops. Air dry flat on a towel.
Polyester & Microplastics
35% of microplastics in the ocean come from laundering synthetic textiles, such as polyester. If washing our recycled polyester, it’s important to always place the garment in a Guppy Friend TM washing bag to avoid releasing these plastic microparticles into aquatic and land ecosystems.
Steaming
As a rule of thumb, it’s better to steam out wrinkles rather than iron them out. It’s a gentler process and easily done by hanging the garment in a bathroom as you take a shower.
Storage
Store your folded sweaters in a drawer or on a shelf. Make sure it’s a cool, dry spot, away from direct sunlight. Avoid hanging on coat hangers, which causes the fibers to stretch.
Natural Protection from Moths
Moths love natural fibers, such as cashmere. Make sure you store sweaters in a dry, clean place and consider using cedar wood and lavender, which are natural moth repellents.
Repair & Spare parts
You will find spare buttons attached to the care label inside your garment. If you need more please contact info@eolasstore.com. We are also happy to advise on minor damage, such as pulled yarn.
